When people fly across the world just to have a photo session with you… well, that’s almost what happened. 😉

Photography in the golden light of Ulriksdals slottspark
A few weeks ago, I had the absolute joy of photographing a family from the US in the beautiful surroundings of Ulriksdals slottspark – one of my favourite spots for golden light, flowers, and a little royal magic. And while they didn’t technically come just for the session, I like to think it was a solid part of the plan. 😄

Au pair in a Swedish family
The real story? The mom, who contacted me, who found me on Google, had been an au pair in a Swedish family over 20 years ago. This summer, she brought her husband and their little boy back to Sweden for the first time – a two-week trip packed with memories, fika, and a heartfelt reunion with her former host family.

And in the middle of all that? A family photo session. Because for them, it’s a tradition.
She told me, “We do this at least twice a year back home – it’s just something we love doing as a family.”

I loved hearing that. Family photos, done regularly, not just as a Christmas card afterthought or a once-a-decade chore. But something intentional. A way to freeze a moment that’s already slipping into memory: the gap-toothed smiles, the hand-holding stage, the kids goofiness, and how they all fit perfectly into one frame – for now.

You never regret a photo that you took.
As we wandered around Ulriksdal, chased the light, family hugs, some tears and silly whispers, it hit me again how special this job is. These images won’t just live on a hard drive. They’ll be printed, hung, gifted to grandparents, hopefully even looked at 20 years from now when this little boy might bring his family back to Sweden for a little adventure.

So no – they didn’t come just for the photo session. But I’m very glad we got to make it part of their story.
