Sometimes, real-life love stories feel like they’ve been taken straight out of a movie — and this one was pure magic. Did she say yes in Fjällbacka or not?

Secret proposal
Earlier this summer, I had the honor of capturing an engagement that took place right in the heart of the Swedish west coast — in the beautiful seaside village of my own Fjällbacka. If you’ve ever been there, you know it’s the kind of place that seems to pause time. With its red boathouses, salty air, and still waters that reflect the Scandinavian sky. But no still water this day!

Would this trip change everything?
He’s half Swedish, half American, and grew up spending his summers in this very place. She’s from the U.S., and this was her second time visiting Fjällbacka. What she didn’t know was that this trip would change everything.

Will you marry me?
He had planned to take her out on the sea in a boat and propose on the water, but as luck would have it, it turned out to be one of the windiest days of the entire summer. The waves were wild and the wind howled, so the original plan had to be scrapped. Instead, he proposed on the jetty just outside their family’s charming new boathouse and honestly, it couldn’t have been more perfect.

She said YES!
With hearts, flowers, and the sound of the sea crashing around them, he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him.
But here’s the part that made it even more unforgettable: not only was almost his whole family there to witness the moment, but so was her mom. She was secretly flown in from the U.S. by his parents as part of the surprise. She had absolutely no idea. Her reaction when she saw her mom, just moments after saying yes, was filled with happy tears, hugs, and a lot of laughter. Look how her mom is hiding with her phone talking on FaceTime with the dad.

A short photo session with the newly engaged couple
After the proposal, they popped champagne and we had a small photo session among the boats and boathouses, windswept but glowing.

Best catering in the village
Once I left, the celebrations continued with a catered dinner from Bryggan — one of Fjällbacka’s best spots for local seafood and coastal charm. It was intimate, emotional, and full of love. And photographing moments like this — in places as meaningful as this — is why I love what I do.

Congratulations to the sweetest couple. Fjällbacka will always have a special place in your heart.
