Two years ago, I was contacted by an old client, actually from 2014. She asked if we could do a few children portraits in different ways, of her own children. If you can’t wait and want to book me asap you can contact me here.

It was an old client who I had photographed when she was pregnant with her first child and then I photographed her newborn baby girl.
Photography at home
A few years later I photographed her second daughter when I was back in Sweden during the summer 2017 and last spring this mom contacted me again because now there was a baby brother on the way. When we finally booked the photo session, which become a bit delayed because of Corona and my move back to Stockholm from Lausanne, we decided also to do a couple of different photo shoots.
What I would like to tell you with this blog is that there are so many different options for children photography. You can do a documentary photo session at home. Like in these pictures. Here’s a mix from 2017 and 2020.
These are very natural and I like the natural expressions of the girls and the baby boy. That’s how it is in real life. What I also like is a bit more staged photos. Still natural but with more planning and organised with beautiful dresses for the girls and some sweet clothes for the baby boy.
Children portraits in different ways in the forest too
Yes, a bit more organized photos but still very easy going and the girls loved the dresses I brought for them. They were swirling around, checking the flow in the dresses and felt very pretty.
So while they were in their own little world with the dresses I took some sweet photos of them. Just have a look at these sisters. So cuuuuute!
After a round of testing the flow in the dresses which was approved by the girls I asked them to give each other a hug. They did, and this is how the photos turned out.
Natural moments
I believe in not pushing the kids too much. I think they are just as lovely as they are and the sweet moments will come, just give them some time and don’t force them to act too much. We guide them and play with them. They’re just kids.
Children portraits in black and white and color
Two galleries, one in color and one in BW. I have difficulties to choose so normally I do both, not of all the photos but I change some of them for my clients to see different options. What do you like the most?
Alright, so now let’s go to the Fine Art Children Photography. These photos are taken indoor with a hand painted canvas background made in England. I have a blue, a brown and I just ordered an olive/green coloured one. That one is really beautiful. It will arrive in Februari to me. Maybe something for you?
Here we have the little girl who started everything. This is the girl in the baby bump in the first picture in this blog. 🙂 6 years later, a tough girl.
To take these photos I need quite a bit of equipment: the canvas back drop, a big light source and stand and my other stand to hold the big back drop. Finally this is what it could look like with Fine Art Children Photography when it’s all set, captured and edited.
Little sister who is in the documentary photos, further up, in her dad’s arms. A big girl now, almost three years old in these pictures. 🙂 The pictures are edited and sometimes I also add props at the photo session like flowers, a scarf, a chair or something my client and I decide together.
About clothing
Not to forget the little baby boy. Three month old and already teeth and with a super charming smile. No pure Fine Art Children Photography pics of him this time but maybe in a few years he will be in front of my camera again dressed with old fashion clothes and holding a book or something else.

Where to photograph
Now I hope you got some good information about children photography and the differences there are. There are obviously many more options like being in a park, in the city of Stockholm, by the water, a lake, on a horse, with your dog, with a music instrument or anything you have in your mind. I’m always open for new ideas.
