Corona wedding
Weddings, Corona, lots of people, hugs, kisses, parties, older relatives… how does that sound? No, it doesn’t really go hand in hand, not in the year 2020 at least.

Who do you invite?
As we all know by now, we will probably rethink for a while (until the vaccin is giving us the right protection) how we get married and who we will invite. Only family, only friends, one party, two parties, outdoor or indoor, with or without masks… lot’s of questions.

Love conquers all
Due to Corona I only had one wedding last year, that was in my own beautiful Fjällbacka. A lovely wedding, beautiful as a wedding should be but with only 36 people invited. The wedding couple started to plan to invite around 100 people, then they had to scale down to 50 and in the end to 36 people. That was in August when the restrictions were better than now. Despite this downscaling it all turned out so good and so beautiful. Never underestimate a small wedding. Love conquers all.

What about bad weather
Not only Corona wanted to get this wedding, the weather was not on our side either when we started to monitor the weather, you know in the weather app you can do a countdown from 10 days. The weather changed almost every hour when I checked. A little bit nerve wracking I must admit. In Fjällbacka there are not too many places with a roof where you can take beautiful wedding portraits, unless you have an umbrella which also is an option of course.

Check out the jet stream from the smoke bomb behind them.
Weather changes
Anyhow, the weather changed from sun, to heavy rain, to stormy weather to a clear sky and ended up with rain and storm in the app the day before the wedding. The wedding couple and I had made great plans to go out with my boat to take wedding portraits out at a lighthouse and then go back to climb the stairs up to the top of the “Veddeberget” with the whole archipelago in the background. We had to cancel all these options due to the weather forecast.

The wedding day arrived with a white a cloudy sky and at 11.00 I almost lost it. The sky was suddenly bright blue and the sun was shining on us and it became a beautiful day but with crazy winds. So even though we had sun we could not fulfil the plans we had. What we did? We went out to the “Badholmen” in Fjällbacka where you have the view over Fjällbacka, over the sea and there is a small stage with a roof which acted a little bit like a shelter from the winds. We got some really nice pics with the smoke bombs…

The lovely wedding couple in Fjällbacka
The day passed by with photos of the preparations, the portraits, the ceremony in the church, the mingle at Bryggan, located right by the water, and when the wedding couple entered the dining room it started to rain! I went home to my house in Fjällbacka for a short rest while the wedding company had their dinner. I felt very lucky that the weather had been good to us during the day but what about the sunset pictures now?

I came home and our plans were to meet up again for the sunsets pictures down by the water. 20.10 was the set time. 19.50 the rain poured down like crazy. I called my friend who was working as a waitress at the dinner and asked her to check with the wedding couple if they were keen on doing the outdoor sunset photos in the pouring rain? 🙂

Important moment, maybe one of the most important moment on the wedding day.

The wedding couple was very lucky with the weather
At the moment when we were talking it stopped raining and the clouds scattered from the sky with the help of the strong winds. Amazing! I threw myself into the car and went down to the jetty where we met up for the beautiful sunset portraits. Just take a look for yourself, the pictures say it all.

What options do we have?
Can you imagine that it poured down just 10 – 15 min before these pictures were taken? We felt very happy all three of us that we manage to do this.
This is how a wedding couple can look like in Fjällbacka but there are hundreds of different options to get married in and around Fjällbacka. I have couples that got married in Hamburgsund and then they went by boat to Fjällbacka for the dinner. A couple who got married on the “Väderöarna” (The Weather Islands) and then they sailed back with their own beautiful wooden sailboat in to Fjällbacka to have the dinner in the village, the guests went with the old fishing boat “Donalda“. A young couple who got married on a small island of Fjällbacka and then had the old fishing boat “Donalda” bringing the guests to a Gården in Kämpersvik. Another one of my couples got married in Fjällbacka church and then they went to a beautiful barn, that they decorated themself, closer to Grebbestad. There are so many options.
